50 Years of Standing With You 

1976 – 2026: Five Decades of Service 

In 2026, the Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) marks 50 years since a small group of women came together with what to some seemed a radical idea: that victim-survivors of sexual violence in Canberra deserved unreserved support. Commencing operations as a community of peers, run by volunteers CRCC has believed, respected and stood alongside victim-survivors.  

What began as a feminist collective in 1976 has grown into the ACT’s only specialist frontline sexual violence service, supporting thousands of people every year through crisis support, counselling, advocacy, education and community engagement.  

Fifty years is a milestone worth celebrating. It is also an ongoing reminder that our work is not yet done, as we continue to take a stand and advocate for change.  

Celebrating With Us 

Throughout 2026, we are marking this milestone with a variety of opportunities to reflect on how far we have come and recommit to the work ahead. CRCC will continue to stand with survivors until we are no longer needed.

Looking Ahead 

In 1976, a small group of women imagined a service that would stand with victim-survivors as they walked their journey to recovery. And now, fifty years later, whether through specialist counselling, or crisis response, through legal advocacy or education, this commitment remains unchanged. As we look ahead, CRCC remains focused on providing professional, specialist, trauma-informed support to our community, and to continuing the  advocacy and prevention work that will one day make our work unnecessary.  

Our vision remains unchanged: to be an active, inclusive voice and presence against all forms of sexual violence until we are no longer needed.
