Groups

CRCC co-facilitates groups in collaboration with other agencies. Groups have long been considered an important tool for addressing the impacts of trauma, particularly with adult survivors of child sexual assault. Group work processes assist to break down the impacts of sexual assault, such as secrecy and isolation.

Art Therapy Group

These groups are organised for clients who have survived child sexual assault and sexual assault in the past.

Art therapy uses the creative process of making and using art to help clients to reflect on their story, and to process and increase their awareness of themself. It also helps resolve conflict and problems, reduce stress, increase self- esteem and insight in a non-threatening and non-judgemental way.

Clients are offered a safe, supported environment in which they are able to relax, work on social skills, be able to give voice to experiences not easily expressed in words, manage behaviours and solve problems.

This is a closed group running over the course of 6 weeks.

Please contact CRCC on (02) 6247 2525 to register your interest.

A pre-group interview is required.

Discoveries

‘Discoveries’ is an invitation to women who have been sexually abused in childhood, and the therapists working with them, to consider how group work can assist them to challenge dominant social, cultural and personal stories about the effects of child sexual abuse.

The act of coming together in groups to confront society’s myths and assumptions is in itself a powerful form of resistance to discourses that try to convince women that being sexually abused is a life sentence.

This is a closed group running over the course of 9 weeks.
