Aboriginal Women

All sexual violence/assault is a crime

The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre encourages all women to seek support and assistance if you feel violated or assaulted in any way.

Sexual assault within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia is alarmingly high, sexual assault against young women such as yourself, your friends, sisters, cousins, mothers and aunts should be talked about within our communities. Sexual assault harms our community because it takes away our future. Sexual assault is not just crimes against an individual but against the whole community

If someone discloses to you that they have been sexually assaulted, then they are talking to you because they trust you. Believe them.
